"After graduating from Cornell University with a degree in General Studies-Biology, my first teaching experiences were tutoring, which I have always loved doing. My specific emphasis within Biology was Ecology and Evolution but I have taught primarily at undergraduate college level in general biology, anatomy & physiology, environmental biology, general chemistry, systems thinking, honors seminars on many subjects, sustainable agriculture, including botany, entomology, animal science, and agricultural practice. I also have an MS degree from CW Post College of Long Island University, and an MBA in sustainable business. I was a certified public school teacher in Science for grades 7-12 for over 20 years and recently retired from 25 years of teaching college.
I have been noted by my former students for my ability to teach students how to study and take tests, reduce test anxiety and recognize and work with learning challenges and limitations. I have also worked as a volunteer, teaching environmental sciences and ecology to children pre-school age through middle school for almost 30 years. I developed and taught an entirely on-line Environmental Biology course for over a decade and during COVID I taught entirely remotely, and then as a hybrid instructor (live and remotely) so I am comfortable with on-line instruction in addition to face-to-face instruction.
There is nothing I revere more than helping my students to reach their goals and feel successful. I recently remotely tutored the daughter of one of my past students for her entrance exams to two of the most competitive science high schools in the nation (in the D.C. area) and she was accepted to both programs. She said the tutoring greatly helped her with both taking the exams and reducing her anxiety about them." less...
