"I'm a dedicated and experienced math and science tutor who's had the privilege of teaching diverse and bright students at the universities of McGill, Oxford, and Columbia.
During my PhD at Oxford, I did college tutoring for undergraduate students in a variety of math and engineering classes, both individually and in small groups. While at McGill, I created a comprehensive set of online course notes and worked problems for a multivariable calculus class I was a teaching assistant for during two semesters.
One of my most rewarding teaching jobs was at Haverford College, working with a blind college student on physics and MATLAB over the course of a year. We often had to come up with creative ways to illustrate concepts and use software that wasn't necessarily designed with accessibility in mind. For me, the experience showed just how much effective teaching comes down to clear and inclusive communication that meets the other person where they are.
My approach to teaching and learning science aims to be practical, efficient, and results-oriented. I like to start from a small set of basic principles, and learn extensively through practice and worked examples how these principles can be applied to solve many different problems. With me, you'll get the results you need by boosting your problem-solving skills and reasoning, and without having to learn stuff by rote.
In real life, I work as a satellite imaging scientist, and before that, I was a biomedical engineering researcher whose specialty was using ultrasound to diagnose aneurysms and zap cancer tumors. I've been fortunate that my work has let me witness firsthand just how powerful math and science are when applied to real life problems. I know that science can seem a bit dry in the classroom sometimes, so as a tutor I'm also keen on transmitting my passion to others by relating what we're learning to real life applications.
Feel free to get in touch any time to discuss how I can help you get the results you're looking for. Thanks for reading!" less...
