"I am a lifelong learner as well as a lifelong teacher. I have been teaching General Education and I am the General education department chair at a local college for the last 2 years, prior to that I have taught 2 years of dance, 6 years of Girl Scouts, and 2 years of preschool. I have a full understanding of the different techniques to teach to gain the most retention rate from my students. I am very compassionate and caring and understand that people see things differently, we as teachers/tutors have to be able to reach the student at their level, not where we expect them to be. From there we lift the student through leadership, care, concern, and patience to the level that they need to be at – this does not happen overnight. I am approved to teach 11 different general education class at the college I teach currently teach, ranging from English, to basic math, to history, and government.
I am not one of the lucky few that grew up understanding everything that was taught to me and then went straight to college and graduated with honors. My life story has a few more bumps and bruises. I struggled understanding many simple concepts in the classroom – I was artistic (dance, music, and drama). I attended a community college where I earned my Associates Degree in Performing Arts. I then attended Old Dominion University where I was studying Elementary education in order to teach 3 – 6th grade. My husband – at the time in the U.S. Navy - was ordered to move all the way across the country; so I was unable to complete my education. After being ordered to move to NY, I then attended Empire State College in upstate. I received my Bachelors degree in World History – specifically minorities and atrocities. I took a couple of years off and eventually returned and earned my Masters in Liberal Studies where I focused on socio-psychological history.
Please feel free to contact me to set up an appointment time. My hours are flexible if I am contacted early, not so much at a last minute since I am a mother of two school aged" less...
