"I recently graduated from Brown University, where I studied history with extensive coursework in Literature, Philosophy, Education, Media Studies, and Computer Science. I am passionate about history and how the study of history can inform our present. I believe the structures of the power of the past are imbued into our moment, and we can only situate ourselves in time by studying history. As such, I believe in the transformative power of knowledge and am deeply committed to helping others acquire knowledge.
I have spent extensive time tutoring and in classroom settings since high school. I worked as a peer editor on writing assignments and volunteered at a local elementary throughout high school. While in college, I was a teaching aid in a local high school. In my sophomore year of college, I began one-on-one virtual tutoring with an eight-year-old. We began tutoring during the pandemic; since his mother was unhappy with his school's learning plan, he was withdrawn from school, and I became his only math teacher. During the height of the pandemic, we met five days a week, and all lesson plans were designed by me in consultation with his mother's wishes. During this time, I witnessed his tremendous growth, which was incredibly rewarding. Once he returned to a normal classroom, after approximately three months of working together, I continued as his tutor for a year and a half. During this time, I gained invaluable experience as a tutor, most notably in planning lessons and reading the needs and wants of students, which will serve me in all future work." less...
