"I specialize in tutoring ESL/ESOL, TOEFL, English, SAT Reading, and SAT Writing. I have over 7 years of experience teaching English language learners both in the United States and abroad, ranging from students who are absolute beginners to students who are advanced and preparing for college writing.

I began teaching 15 years ago when I moved from North Carolina to the Dominican Republic. Although I had an undergraduate degree in International Studies, I quickly found that I felt alive and at home in the classroom. After teaching middle school ELA and Social Studies for 2 years, I moved to an International Baccalaureate school and taught high school IB Language and Literature for 3 years. During this time, I started a successful SAT tutoring program for my international students.

During these 5 years in the Dominican Republic, I not only fell in love with teaching, but I discovered that I have a passion for languages and learning about other cultures. This experience led to my decision to return to school to receive a graduate degree in Teaching English as a Second Language in NYC.

Teaching ESL in New York City public schools for the last 10 years has been one of the most powerful experiences of my life. It is a gift to be able to help students discover their new language and culture and to help teach them how to communicate in their new world.

One of my goals for every session is to ignite a passion for lifelong learning through providing engaging material and monitoring growth through periodic assessments and progress reports.

I am generally available for tutoring in the evenings.
