"Hi there! I’m Sue! I have a passion for helping others and have enjoyed working with students in different capacities throughout my professional career. My background is in English instruction and College Counseling, with Master’s degrees in both fields. I also have a decade of combined work experience. I served as a ninth grade English teacher for five years and high school college counselor for four years. Additionally, I privately tutored students in English and assisted them in college essay writing.

As an English instructor, I emphasize the writing process and teach students to communicate effectively through various modes of writing, such as academic essays, projects and presentations, and creative pieces. I model how students can create their own work in these genres by presenting writing samples that teach the necessary framework to follow. With guidance, students can build upon this framework and gain confidence in their writing. I then help students navigate through all steps of the writing process, including brainstorming, organizing and composing ideas, and proofreading/revising until they have created a polished final product.

As a college counselor, I use my English background to help students produce compelling college essays and navigate the college application process. This process can be overwhelming for both students and parents, so I’m available to help with any of the steps involved. In addition to assisting with college essays, I have worked closely with students to complete applications, meet deadlines, create activity resumes, and identify universities that are a good fit for them.

My diverse educational and career background has provided me with a strong foundation to work with students of differing needs. I am able to identify student challenges and utilize varied approaches to connect with and to encourage them as we work together.
