"I am a two-time dissertation award winner from the American Sociological Association and a two-time recipient of Best Teacher awards. Currently, I serve as an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Chicano/Latino Studies at Michigan State University. I hold a PhD in Sociology from Vanderbilt University, where I specialized in medical sociology, mental health, and sex/gender/sexuality. In addition, I have earned both a teaching certificate and an online teaching certificate from Vanderbilt University. My academic foundation is also supported by a Master of Social Work and a BA in Psychology, equipping me with a robust understanding of both theoretical and applied aspects of sociology.

With over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience, I have instructed a wide range of courses, including graduate level statistics, intro to sociology, Medical Sociology, mental health, sociology of race/ethnicity, and Sociology of sex/gender/sexuality. My teaching philosophy emphasizes critical thinking, application, and inclusivity, encouraging students to connect sociological theories to real-world issues. In addition to classroom teaching, I have mentored undergraduate and graduate students, guiding independent research projects and serving on thesis committees. These experiences enable me to provide personalized support and foster meaningful academic growth for students with diverse interests and backgrounds.

My research integrates quantitative and qualitative methods to explore social determinants of health and the intersections of identity, inequality, and well-being.
