"My love of tutoring comes from a life-long love of learning, and a desire to inspire that love in others. I know that when a student is struggling to understand the material, whether due to the teacher's teaching style or a student's lack of practice, that can really turn a student off to school and learning for a long time. I try to turn that feeling around by not only helping the student understand their current material, but helping them develop a plan for future classes, and teaching them the importance of practice and dedication.
I have been tutoring part-time since 2005, and I specialize in many levels of math and Spanish. I have taken many Math courses including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus (both single- and multi-variable), linear algebra, and differential equations. I have taken many advanced Spanish courses and have spent time studying in both Mexico and Spain. For most lessons, I do a brief chapter overview and then we work on homework problems or extra examples if need be. When I teach, I explain concepts simply and clearly, and in different ways if necessary. I provide as many examples and real-world applications as possible. I also find that reviewing past homework assignments and tests is very beneficial. But every student is different, so I'm very flexible.
My schedule is also very flexible. I do work part-time, but I have plenty of time to meet, especially afternoons, evenings, and weekends. I am open to setting up a regular weekly schedule or just as needed.
I try to be flexible with time as well. I have a 2-hour cancellation policy because I know things can come up last minute. If the lesson is cancelled more than 2 hours out, there will be no charge. Less than that, I bill at half rate, and if I'm on my way to the lesson or have gotten there, I will charge for the full lesson.
I often meet with students in their home, in a coffee shop, or in a library -- whatever is the most comfortable and convenient for the student and/or parents.
