"Hi! I am Maryanne and I have a Bachelor’s Degree in biology from Brown University and a Master’s Degree in music theory from the University of Texas. I have been an online math tutor for about nine months. I enjoy working with people of all ages, and my specialty area is tutoring math in grades 2-7. In my tutoring experience, I have found that most students improve their math skills after working with me. My approach is to focus on where the student needs the most help and provide the guidance, patience, and encouragement to give them the confidence boost they need to learn and improve in math. I have found that this approach works in a variety of settings, including one-on-one tutoring, disabled students, small home groups, and small school groups.
I enjoy tutoring students with a variety of personalities and especially enjoy students who may be struggling somewhat; seeing a student improve and gain confidence is a true reward for me. In my various communications with students and parents, I have gotten a lot of positive feedback. In many cases, students who previously didn’t like math and struggled with it reported improved grades in their math classes and a new-found love of math. I also have had parents tell me that their child looks forward to their tutoring sessions—and after all, I try to make it fun! In addition, I can present math and problem-solving concepts in a variety of ways, tailored to the individual student or group.
My goal is to help each student improve their math skills as much as possible. To help ensure this I frequently ask for feedback on my tutoring sessions from both the student and their parent. I try to make myself available for discussions, where I listen to the student or parent and seek out ways of making my tutoring sessions more effective for the student. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and to schedule a lesson. I look forward to hearing from you!" less...
