"Hi, I'm Miriam. I received a master's degree in polymer science and engineering at UMass Amherst!
I received a dual bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and mathematics (statistics and applied math) at University of Massachusetts Amherst, Commonwealth Honors College. I received Chancellor's Scholarship throughout my entire undergraduate program. I lived in South Korea, Australia, Canada and I moved to America in 2012. I can interact with students from various cultures. I am patient and open-minded.
One of the most powerful skills I have as a tutor is that I am able to explain the content in depth as well as teach the student the test strategies. I learned math from South Korea and America. In South Korea, speed and accuracy are two most significant skills for getting good grades in tests. In America, learning step by step but making sure to understand the concept deeply is the important thing. Therefore, I learned math deeply and always had extra time left in exams. I would like to share my math skills and strategies to students who are struggling with math and see their progresses.
I've been tutoring math (algebra 1 to calculus 1, 2 and SAT, ACT math, IB SL/HL Math, MYP math) since March, 2014 and so far I have tutored over 300 students. They all have experienced a significant grade improvement: D to A-, B- to A+ and etc. I worked as a teaching assistant for Calculus 1 in Fall 2015 and for ChemEng120 Fundamentals in Spring 2016 at UMass, Amherst. I have been volunteering at a local high school (Amherst Regional High School) as a teaching assistant for precalculus honors and AP BC calculus since 2013.
I am currently also teaching at Arts of Problem Solving virtual campus as a math instructor!" less...
