"Hi, I'm Ryan! I am currently a Medical Student at New York Medical College, pursuing an MD degree. I graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Chemistry and Statistics from Hunter College.
I have years of experience tutoring middle school, high school, and college students. My first teaching experience in college was for an after school program at a local middle school in which I provided extra help sessions in a variety of subjects including science, social studies, English, and math. I strongly believe that each individual student has ways in which they learn best, and I have an innate ability to determine and tap into a student's ideal learning method. Following this, I tutored English and Math to a class of around 30 high school Juniors and Seniors prepping for the SATs.
As a Teaching Assistant (TA) for Psych 248 (Psych stats) at Hunter College, I held weekly office hours and review sessions before exams. I was also in charge of grading roughly 30 students' homework, so I saw firsthand the common mistakes that students make in the course. I let the students work through the problem until they come across a specific point where they are stuck. I then ask them how they approached the question, and if it's flawed, I'd direct them with clues. Eventually, my students did better on their exams than the others who were simply given the answers to their homework question, only to come across the same question on the test and blank out.
