"I have more than two decades experience teaching high school math and I have been tutoring since my junior year at Texas A&M and have always enjoyed teaching one-on-one. I love to be able to focus on one student so I can make sure they are understanding the material and that I am teaching in a way that works for them.
Through my years of teaching and tutoring, I have taught students of all different levels of skills and interest in mathematics. For those who enjoy it, I try to make it as interesting as possible. For those who do not enjoy it (maybe hate it), I try to make it as painless as possible. I want my students to leave my classroom or a tutoring session feeling understood as well as understanding the material.
I have taught Algebra 1 and 2, Precalculus, AP Statistics, Introduction to Statistics, Finite Mathematics, SAT/ACT Math, and am currently teaching Business Calculus for the first time. I am also a Table Leader for the AP Statistics Exam. This means I train and supervise a group of Readers, the professionals who score the exam papers. This means I know exactly how College Board wants questions answered and can teach students how to do so effectively.
In addition to content knowledge, there are skills related to executive functioning needed for success as a student in any subject area. A student must be able to organize their work flow, monitor whether or not they are learning, match study methods to the type of assessment they will take, manage their time and much more. I have an MS in Educational Psychology, as well as my school counseling credentials, which equip me for coaching students to develop these skills and to be successful as students.
I am so excited to meet you. Whether you need help with a math class or you need coaching to help you stay organized and successful as a student, I want to help you. If you are interested in working together to meet your goals, please contact me." less...
