"Hello:
I am a Special Education teacher with 18 plus years working with students with autism and related disorders. My best skill is my ability to work with students who are resistant to learning; I do this through a tried and true method that involves high interest activities, frequent praise, building from simple to more difficult tasks and predictability in the way I interact with students. The motivation for my work comes from watching students "learn to learn"; I remember the feeling of working with a non-verbal student to make any sound at all. After what felt like a million repetitions, she finally said the word "more" and she hasn't stopped talking since.
I have been trained by professionals at JHU and at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders in ABA. I have developed behavioral interventions to support student learning. I created a program for young students with autism that is used in a school district I work with; use of this program, inside of a highly structured ABA classroom, has resulted in tremendous growth for many children. Parents can be taught to use the techniques at home to promote generalization of skills.
I am willing to work through the tough times. I believe every student can learn and I wont give up on a student. I have extensive training in the skills that are essential to good instruction. I am not afraid to keep trying and I will be persistent to find the right formula for your child.
If you want someone with experience, a genuine interest in autism and the children it affects, I am the tutor for you. I set high expectations and I will push to get everything I can from your child. Your child will learn to trust that I say what I mean and I mean what I say.
I am moving to SC and will be available to schedule sessions by September 30, 2016 at the latest." less...
