"I am a retired CPA and have spent almost my entire adult life helping children. I spent three years in the US Army and then went to Indiana University where I graduated magna cum laude. I was in the Big Brothers program for over twenty years. After retiring in 2000, I spent seven years as a volunteer tutoring children one on one in the Plainfield elementary school system. I volunteered at Riley Hospital for Children for about two years. I also volunteered one year at an IPS magnet school tutoring three high school students who had failed the ECA test in Algebra.

I currently volunteer at a homeless shelter in Indianapolis (Dayspring Center) and have volunteered there for the past seven years. I volunteer at the shelter whenever they need me and am currently volunteering two days a week. During the school year, I volunteer as a tutor one day a week for IPS third graders who are struggling with reading under the ReadUP program sponsored by United Way. One of my students improved more than any other student in the program last year.

I firmly believe that one of the keys to success in life is education. What I truly love about tutoring is the fact that it gives me the chance to help a child who is struggling in school. What I especially enjoy is finding a way to make learning fun for a child so that they look forward to the tutoring sessions with me.

I graduated from Indiana University magna cum laude with a degree in Business . After graduation, I passed the CPA exam and spent my entire career as a CPA.

A magnet school in Indianapolis needed an algebra teacher to help special ed students who had failed the ECA test so I volunteered to help three students pass the test.
