"Hello, and nice to meet you. My name is Tessa, and I am an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher. I have been teaching for three years, and I love it. Having taught all levels, from beginner to advanced, I know what is needed for each one. I know that practice is extremely important, and that creating a human connection to the language helps the best with learning. I am especially strong at teaching grammar, and I really enjoy making my lessons creative and fun.
I like to start off my classes with casual conversation in order to warm up and lead into the lesson, then teach vocabulary and grammar, and after that, give students the chance to use what they've learned in a way that ignites their interest. I allow for as much time to practice as possible and I encourage students to risk making mistakes, because that is how we learn. I provide correction without using shame or embarrassment.
In addition to regular ESL classes, I have also taught advanced reading and writing and TOEFL preparation classes. I have also tutored English-speaking children in reading and writing. I enjoy guiding my students in their understanding of literature and through the writing process. I have completed my bachelor's degree in modern literature and my master's degree in social work, as well as my TESOL certificate. I speak and write conversational/fluent Spanish.
If you would like to schedule a free consultation meeting so that we can meet each other and see if we would be a good fit, please send me a message. All the best" less...
