My name is Russell R. and I would love to make your acquaintance. I was educated at Emerson College in Boston and graduated from there this May with a bachelors degree and a 3.8. GPA. My two major passions, educationally speaking, are English and History. I believe it is of the utmost importance that people know how to both speak the King's English and have a rudimentary understanding of history, otherwise I sincerely believe we will never advance as a species. My style of tutoring is simple: I let the student tell me the style which works best for their mindset and then I follow suit accordingly. If they like using flashcards, then I'll use flashcards. If they want me to make them memorize the book, then we'll do that instead, etc.., etc. My sister is autistic, so I can totally emphasize with people who need extra time and to be taught differently than most students.

How I would start each lesson is by being briefed on what the student needs help with, I will read up on that material beforehand (if need be), and then relay that information back to the student in simple, concise language. For example, if the subject is the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798, all I would need to do is rephrase the events by saying that "John Adams was the President, and he didn't like it when people criticized him, so he threw them in jail because of it". When it comes to English, I will make sure that you know the difference between a dependent and independent clause; when is the right time to use a comma or an semicolon; how to know proper prepositional use; and how to properly structure your essays. In short, I want your teachers to read your teachers and parents to sit back and go "Wow". I want to make sure that your grades will skyrocket into the stratosphere of excellence." less...
