"I am currently a student at Duquesne University on a full ride to double major in Financing and Accounting, and I'm currently working towards my bachelor's degree. In my previous education, I attended Barack Obama Academy of Internation Studies 6-12 where I was able to maintain a 4.3 weighted GPA. At Obama I exceled in Mathematics where I've been in CAS every year at Obama taking rigorous math courses, and already taking Algebra one in middle school. At Obama I've mastered calculus along with Algebraic expressions of all sorts. I have previously tutored at multiple stages in my life, one starting at the very age of 10 years old tutoring my friend in math who was twelve years old at the time.
During my high school career for volunteer hours, I tutored a collective of 6th grade students for around an hour and thirty minutes for a five-day stretch. I would do this for a whole semester, so that'd equate to about 5 months. For my 4 years at Obama, I was also in apart Mt. Arrat tutoring program where I had the opportunity to mentor one student and assist them with their work in a one-on-one setting. This gave me the opportunity to understand how students' confidence can be tarnish when not being able to understand the content that's being taught.
Over the years I've found better methods of tutoring such as notecards, creating quizlets, slowing down the lessons, and the biggest thing is building up their confidence. Communicating with the student is key seeing what they understand, and they don't and letting them know they're not alone in this learning process. As a young man I always want to learn and adapt to everything that I can, and I'd like to have the opportunity to try and help the world in a way that's beneficial. To teach these students determination and help them get to a level where they can reflect on their growth." less...
