"I have been teaching and tutoring since I graduated from Brown University in 2013 and realized I could share my love of languages, and get paid to do it! Most recently, in December 2023, I completed an MA in Classics with a focus on teaching Latin. My course of study exposed me to additional pedagogical methods, issues in education, and a wide selection of Latin literature.
In 2014, I completed a Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and since then I've taught ESL in Boston, Massachusetts and Moscow, Russia. In addition, I served as interim Latin teacher at a New Hampshire boarding school from 2014-2015.
As I've tutored various subjects and used the communicative method to teach languages over the years, I've seen again and again the success and confidence that results from eliciting responses from students and patiently working through material with them. I've been exposed to many different teaching methods and styles during my time studying various languages, living and dead, both in formal classroom situations and on my own, and I've tried to take the best of what I've seen and incorporate it into my own methods and recommendations for how students should study.
Two things that have always come naturally to me are languages and standardized tests, and while I have a passion for the former, I also enjoy approaching test problems as puzzles and find satisfaction in sharing the techniques that helped me succeed with others." less...
