"Hi, I'm Mary! I am currently a student studying at the University of Central Florida Burnett Honors College, pursuing a degree in Biomedical Sciences. I have a current GPA of 3.8 and have consistently made the Dean's List while also having been named a Top Scholar at my high school (for an overall 4.0+ GPA). I have years of tutoring experience mostly through the National Honors Society at my high school with Biology, Chemistry, and math. I also have experience tutoring elementary-aged children through various volunteer programs in math and reading. Therefore, I have gotten to see firsthand how each age group is distinct in terms of needs and ideal tutoring approaches.

However, I have observed that the most effective tutoring is individualized, no matter if the student is elementary or high school-aged. That is why I love to get to know my students in order to better understand where they may be having trouble, so I can personalize each lesson to their needs. This usually takes the form of first making an effort to understand exactly what the student is struggling with and why they are feeling this way, followed by personalized practice and feedback with the aim of improving their confidence by the end of the session.

I have gotten an A or higher in the subjects I tutor. However, it took a lot of work to get there, and many times this involved receiving help in the form of study sessions, office hours, or traditional tutoring. In all of these instances, especially through math courses and Organic Chemistry, the tutors and professors have been very compassionate and understanding. This was very important to me because, for a long time, I had a fear of asking for help due to possible judgment. Despite this, I have now learned that help is a valuable tool to utilize when it comes to succeeding. I would like to provide that same compassion and understanding to you!
