"Hi, I'm Lauryn. I am a special education teacher at a middle school in NJ and have taught for over 7 years. I enjoy working with students and providing individualized support to watch them succeed. I obtained my Masters in Teaching for Elementary Education and Special Education in 2016. Additionally, I enjoy learning about and teaching science and thus earned my Middle School Science certification as well. Since earning my teaching degrees, I have enjoyed helping students with disabilities in a public school setting. Now, I primarily work with students between the ages of 11-12 but have worked with younger students in the past as well.
I currently teach 6th grade and support students with various disabilities in their science, social studies, math, and study skills classes. My study skills class focuses on areas of executive functioning such as organization, time management, note taking, study habits, and test taking strategies. I have tutored and assisted students in the previously mentioned executive functioning areas. I have also assisted students with their homework when focusing on sustaining attention and working thoroughly on assignments. My tutoring approach begins with some teacher guided practice where the student and teacher work together. When the student is demonstrating sufficient understanding, we would transition to more independent work with teacher assistance as needed. This tutoring approach is adjusted to meet the needs of each individual student to ensure that the time we work together is as beneficial for the student as possible. I value incorporating student choice into the subject matter that we are working on when feasible as well. I usually begin working on assignments and questions that students may have but also have access to many supplemental resources for additional practice.
If there are any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. I would be happy to discuss more and look forward to helping students with their education!" less...
