I've always loved science and majored in biology in undergrad. By the time I was a senior, I was a docent in a natural history museum and had helped many friends improve their grades in biology, chemistry, and math. After graduation from University of Michigan, I continued studying to get my teaching certificate. I moved to Georgia and started teaching in 1986 and haven't looked back, earning my M.Ed. in science from Georgia State.

Owning the discovery helps students with their confidence. When it's math, I want to see the student do the work. They can watch me all day and they're not getting anything. I need to see that they can accomplish the task themselves.
Learning shouldn't be a chore and I find that understanding the individual needs of a student can make all the difference in his or her love of learning. One size really doesn't fit all when it comes to education." less...
