"Dear student: Let me introduce myself. My name is Carolina. I have been teaching since May 2000. I have taught in Florida, Texas, and California. I have been a public school history and English/Language arts teacher for grades 6-12, the director of an early learning center, the co-director of a charter school, and a college professor of Humanities and English. I currently have a BA in Hispanic Studies from Loyola University New Orleans and a MA in Humanities with a focus on literary studies from UTD. I am also a semester away from finishing my second master's degree, this time in Mental Health Counseling. My teaching (and tutoring/coaching) philosophy is that learning takes place when we are enjoying the process, so learning should be fun. Everyone can reach their goals if they are determined, self-disciplined, and have the right "coach". I consider tutoring more like coaching. We set goals, create a plan, and work towards that goal together. Tutoring/coaching allows me to help you better than in a classroom setting because its a one-on-one scenario. We can focus on you, your needs, your learning style, your goals. I have helped students learn subject matter content, critical thinking, create community service projects, master writing, test prep, and so much more. Over the years I have successfully helped a wide range of students reach their academic goals. I take the field of education seriously and as a result I have written charters, curriculum, and helped my students reach national recognition for their work. I have been able to teach students of all ages as well as within a variety of professions including other educators via conferences. I specialize in test prep, college/career counseling, efficiency and organization coaching, subject area tutoring, and professional development/corporate training. I look forward to helping you reach your goals." less...
