"I have been teaching pre-college, and college classes in 3-D Computer Animation, Drawing and Video Production, Photoshop and Motion Capture for 6 years. I teach around 15 students a session to individual instruction focusing on the digital to physical realm. For example, I have my students scan physical objects and digitally place them in a photograph using Photoshop and Maya, a foundation for architectural renderings; emphasizing the importance of simultaneously learning multiple programs in order to understand the flow of a professional studio.
My work and my teaching methods are interwoven; many of my student projects are based on my own artistic practice, in which I make installations that incorporate sculpture and 3-D Animation. I teach the basics of these skills, focusing on how these media can intertwine to create complex installations. Along the way, I make a point to show students a wide variety of different artworks, from commercial studios like Pixar, to Jacoby Satterwhite’s mediated, otherworldly spaces.
My classes are broken up into lectures, tutorials, discussion, lab time, screenings, and student presentations. I first assess my student’s diverse technical skill-set before deciding how to begin all on the same level, meeting them wherever they are it in a “come as you are” environment. I then start with general tutorials from which I devise projects with clear directives, using the aforementioned tutorials as a map.
Programs I use are the Adobe Suite, Maya, Rhinoceros, Isadora and always looking to learn and use more!
I love teaching all ages, as I used to teach elementary students stop motion and I am currently teaching Motion Capture to undergraduates." less...
