"Hey, I'm Alex! I am a UF physics major pursuing a double B.S. in physics and math. I strive to create a learning environment that is centered around the student, with myself as a facilitator through a specifically tailored peer-tutoring strategy.
I have two years of tutoring experience with college-level physics and mathematics. In high school, I volunteered with Mu Alpha Theta, a mathematics tutoring organization, completing 10 required volunteer hours per semester. I tutored one-on-one in a classroom format, focusing on precalculus and calculus topics each week. Furthermore, I received an IB diploma and near-perfect scores on IB and AP examinations of calculus and physics, reflecting my experience with college-level subjects early on. I also participated in Science Olympiad county and state competitions, receiving top places in categories with high math discipline, such as 5th in Astronomy in the state. Currently, I continue to work with students of all ages through the UF chapter of the Society of Physics Students Outreach Committee, on which I take part in teaching physics subjects in an interactive way to K-12 students. Additionally, I am a member of the UF Quantum Science for Fundamental Physics research group, have had and continue to maintain a 4.0 GPA, and tutor on the platform "Knack."
When I meet a student, I give them the dominant role in the session, being there as a support agent. I will follow the general lesson plan of the student's course with time allotted for the student to practice skills learned. With physics and math, everything is methodical, making it easy to pinpoint where a student does not understand something when we both work out a problem step-by-step. This focuses time on explaining what is necessary, leaving more time for the student to solidify the concepts at hand. This approach not only gives students a study template but also gives them the tools to be independent learners.
I am easily accessible and respond promptly to any requests, so feel free to schedule a lesson!" less...
