"Greetings!
I have been involved with education in a variety of capacities for over 30 years. I have taught pre-school, I have been a Title 1 tutor, I have taught First Grade, a number of long term substitute positions (Art was a favorite) and have most recently worked as a paraprofessional at a Junior High. I graduated from The University of Hartford in 1987 with a B.F.A. in Graphic Design. Right out of college I was a camp counselor and fell in love with teaching children. I then went on to teach pre-school and decided to pursue my NH Teacher Certification. With my graphic design degree I initially considered specializing in Art. However, after my long-term position as an art teacher I discovered I missed the closeness one achieves working with smaller groups of children. I ended up getting my K-8 certification. During my stint as a para (two years ago) I was able to help students on-line as we were remote on Fridays. I especially enjoyed helping my 5th graders with their reading and writing (a subject near and dear to me as we all know these areas of study infiltrate all other subject areas).
I am currently caring for an elderly parent so am unable to commit to consistent time in a classroom. I would like to try tutoring and see if I can blend all of my worlds in a manageable yet rewarding way! I just recently took a course through The University of Southern NH on organizational skills (a number of which I am implementing with my 12 year old son and am experiencing great success). I am a mother of three. I have two in college and one in 6th grade. I pawsitively love dogs! I also love traveling, reading, hiking and tennis. I especially enjoy working with children K-5. I have a fairly flexible schedule but evenings will probably work best. I hope I have the opportunity to meet and work with some wonderful children!" less...
