"My journey to becoming a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist began over 20 years ago following a sibling’s diagnosis with a disability. For over 15 years I have served diverse pediatric populations, ages 2-18, with various communication disorders and exceptionalities in a variety of settings. My background in Applied Behavior Analysis has been instrumental in my speech-language therapy treatment approaches. Throughout my career I have developed an immense passion for my work. I strive to improve clients' communication skills through the implementation of fun yet functional activities.
Understanding the importance of the generalization of learned skills, I work closely with clients and their families to provide them with strategies and supports to aid in the transfer of communication skills across environments. Examples of communication skills that I work on are receptive language (e.g., following directions, understanding gestures, answering questions, identifying objects/pictures, reading comprehension, understanding a story) and expressive language (e.g., asking questions, naming objects, using gestures and facial expressions, commenting, vocabulary, syntax (grammar rules), semantics (word/sentence meaning), morphology (forms of words), writing). I am well versed in the content, form, and use of the English language and enjoy providing tutoring for related subjects.
Throughout my professional career I have worked with over 500 clients, ranging from ages 2-21. For 7 years, I worked at an Exceptional Student Education center school that provided a wide range of therapy services to students ages 3-21 with various developmental disabilities.
As a lifelong learner, I am continually seeking opportunities to grow professionally. I am currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in the Education of Students with Exceptionalities.
Feel free to contact me to learn more about my service offerings and to schedule your first lesson with me. I look forward to hearing from you soon!" less...
