"I am a retired French/German teacher. I retired from Beacon City Schools in 1998 and have since substituted and tutored privately wherever my services were required and I was able to oblige.
A native German I came to the US in 1957 and attended Marist college from 1962 to 1966. I spent my first year away in Glasgow, Scotland, teaching French at St. Mungo's Academy. Returned to US to accept the French position at Beacon CS and taught there (7-12) until my retirement. Our courses ranged from Beginning Language to AP level.
In 1968, I attended the Goethe Institute in Montreal, a summer symposium in German literature, at the conclusion of which I was awarded the complete works of Schiller, presented by Dr. Michael Speidel. From 1974-1975, I studied at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France, at the IPFE institute, and received a License es Lettres - roughly equivalent to an American Liberal Arts Masters degree.
In the twilight of my career at Beacon, I taught German in the studio of the Distance Learning Network, a televised course with other schools on line. Throughout my career at Beacon, I organized many overseas study/visitation trips for HS students and any interested adults during Spring break. While pursuing graduate studies at New Paltz during the 70's, I attended several Summer study programs in France (Bordeaux, Vittel, Grand, Contrexeville) and was counselor/teacher at the last of these.
I have always strived to instill a reason for learning a Foreign language in my students, and have, as a result, placed a primary importance in being able to communicate in the target language." less...
