"Hi, I'm Sean! I have a doctorate in American history and nearly 20 years experience teaching history to middle school, high school, college and adult learners. I excel at providing students with context and understanding of complex historical topics and preparing them for examinations and evaluations. I'm not just a boring lecturer. I make the past come alive and help students understand not just what happened, but why it happened and why it matters. I am also skilled at teaching geography. which is inseparable from history.
Since 2003 I have coached high school students in small groups (3 to 6) in a nationwide civics/debate competition program (We the People/Classroom Law Project) which incorporates history, government and politics in a highly competitive process. While in this program we are called "coaches" rather than "tutors," it is essentially tutoring, and I am very good at finding where students need improvement with concepts and helping them overcome those obstacles.
