"I have been interested in chemistry since high school and studied it in Germany, first in Saarbrücken, a city in the South West corner close to France and then in Tübingen, a city close to Stuttgart in the South of Germany. The German system requires first a bachelor, then a masters degree before you can enter a Ph.D program. I obtained my Ph.D. in organic and analytical chemistry using a method call high performance liquid chromatography.

After my Ph.D. I came to Boston working at Northeastern University as a postdoc before returning to Europe to work in Basel in the pharmaceutical industry with Novartis. I continued to work on analytical methods and gave frequently presentations at symposia and international conferences. Eventually I came to the Bay Area to first work in a startup and then in bioanalytical tool companies. I did give courses on the methods I developed and also worked on a volunteer basis with 6th grade students in a South San Jose school.
