"Hi, I’m Jonathan! I have a Ph.D. and B.S. in physics as well as 13+ years of teaching experience in physics in the higher education setting. My journey into teaching began during my time as a graduate student, where I discovered the joy of watching students' faces light up as they grasp complex physics concepts. This profound experience inspired me to pursue a career in teaching. Over the years, I have had the privilege of teaching a diverse array of students, each presenting unique challenges to learning the material. I am well versed in a variety of teaching techniques, so I am sure that we can find one that will work for you!
I have over 13 years of experience teaching college-level physics courses, spanning from introductory physics to quantum mechanics, at both large state universities and small private liberal arts colleges. While my primary focus has been on college students, I am also eager to tutor high school students in AP courses. Throughout my teaching career, I have frequently supported students who needed additional help to ensure they didn't fall behind. This has allowed me to amass thousands of hours of tutoring experience, providing individualized and small-group support during office hours, in both physics as well as math.
My tutoring approach starts by assessing students' current understanding of a topic. I then connect the concepts they already grasp to the ones they find challenging. To reinforce these concepts, I have students explain what they have learned back to me and solve problems independently. By customizing each session to address specific learning gaps and leveraging students' existing strengths, I have successfully helped many students excel in physics and math.
My goal is to ensure every student succeeds in their academic journey. I am always open to new ideas and suggestions to enhance the learning experience. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson. Let's work together to achieve your academic goals!" less...
