"Hi! My name's JD. I have a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology and a Masters in Public Health. During my Ph.D., I was the Head Teaching Assistant for an introductory biology lab course. With 600 students taking the course every semester, I coached students from all backgrounds and levels of experience. I also taught the biology section of an MCAT Preparation Course for 1 year. In these roles, I taught in lecture halls of 200-300 students, led labs of 20-24 students, and met one-on-one with students during office hours. I also designed the curriculum, lab assignments, exams, and grading rubrics.

Outside the classroom, I worked as a tutor for college biology and chemistry, helping individuals or small groups of students gain a deep understanding of the material. In the later years of my Ph.D., I transitioned into working as a tutor at the university's Writing Center where I helped undergraduate and graduate students work on all types of writing assignments, from lab reports to research papers to Ph.D. dissertations. My goal as a tutor is to help students achieve their goals, be that understanding complex topics or doing better on the next exam.

In my free time, I also work as a Science Writer. I have written 11 episodes for the popular science YouTube show "SciShow" which is hosted by Hank Green and has 8 million subscribers.
