"My name is Alexandra. I am a former college professor and formally trained writing tutor. I have over a decade of experience teaching or tutoring: Political Science/American Government/Public Policy; Writing; Political Theory/History of Western Philosophy; US and European History; American and European Literature; Greek and Roman History/Mythology; and European Art History.
In 2023-24, my HS students had superior results on AP exams, achieved A level grades in class, and one placed in the top spots of a nationwide essay contest. My college and graduate clients also received superior grades, and one of my dissertation clients won an award.
I have experience tutoring college and graduate students and offer academic editing. At the high school level, I only tutor high school in AP/IB classes, dual enrollment classes, or writing-intensive classes at rigorous schools that no longer offer AP/IB. I work with students in AP US Government and Politics, AP US History (APUSH), AP European History, AP English Language, and AP English Literature.
I have always received strong teaching evaluations. After one of my teaching reviews, a senior professor said he had never seen a teacher receive as much universal praise from students and fellow professors. My former students inducted me as an honorary faculty member of a campus leadership group in recognition of my exceptional teaching and mentoring.
I am flexible, humorous, and approachable. I don't care how behind you are, how much you are struggling, or how unprepared you might feel. If you are willing to work, I WILL be able to help you. I am extremely patient with students who are trying, but still struggling with the material. I also know how to push elite students--my former students have been admitted to the country's best schools and won some of the most prestigious postgraduate awards in the world. Some of the most common things I help students with are literature reviews, reading strategies, research skills, paper organization, and textual analysis." less...
