"I'm Lisa! I've been formally teaching Chemistry for 20 years, but began working with students as a tutor as soon as I completed freshman Chemistry ages ago at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. There I completed my BS with a double major in Chemistry and Mathematics. I knew then I enjoyed engaging with students and went to graduate school with the intention of teaching college. While Math came naturally, I was more interested in Chemistry. I began my graduate journey at the University of Michigan where I earned my MS in Chemistry. I finished my PhD at Iowa State University in Analytical Chemistry. As mentioned initially, I began tutoring at UWSP and that continued throughout my graduate career. Upon graduation, I began teaching at a small liberal arts college. I prefer the smaller teaching settings so I can better get to know my students. By getting to know them, I can better help them succeed! I use a variety of strategies that all depend on what my learner needs and how they think. I have a wealth of materials I can pull from to create example problems to work through. I can help you develop study guides to use on your own. I'll work with you to help you learn!

I've taught a variety of classes at the college level: General Chemistry, Introductory Analytical Chemistry (sometimes called Quantitative Analysis), Instrumental Analysis, and Environmental Chemistry. That last one sticks out as a bit different! I enjoy using my training as a Chemist to explore our natural world. I'm happy to work with you on any of these areas." less...
