"Hello, I am Dr. Carrie Christiansen. I have a PhD in chemistry from Purdue University and over 10 years of teaching experience with AP and college level chemistry. I’d love the opportunity to help you or your child not only improve their grades in chemistry but gain a deep understanding of the subject that will help them achieve their future academic and career goals.
I attended Brigham Young University for my undergraduate in chemistry and began my focus on education there, as a teaching assistant. I did graduate work at Purdue University, earning my PhD in physical chemistry, studying the atmospheric breakdown of man-made chemicals. I continued to teach and tutor during my graduate work.
Since graduating, I have continued to teach part time, while raising my three young children. I have taught freshman chemistry at two more universities and a prestigious east coast prep school.
I focus students on understanding two big ideas to guide their study of chemistry.
The fundamental driving forces and associated energy changes due to the attractive and repulsive forces of positive and negative particles. This perspective is crucial to gaining a firm understanding of many conceptual topics in chemistry.
Solving quantitative problems using a systematic approach that focuses on unit analysis. Most math problems in chemistry can be solved if students use dimensional analysis to tackle problems.
I look forward to helping you or your child in achieving their goals in chemistry and beyond!" less...
