"I began my pedagogical career as an undergraduate TA for Calculus III in the Spring of 2019, and as a TA for Linear Algebra in the Fall of 2019. In my final semester in 2020, I took on the role of a mathematics tutor at the University of Arizona’s Think Tank helping students tackle the Calculus sequence. After graduation, I refined my pedagogy from 2020 to 2022 as a teacher for statistics and algebra at the high school level here in Tucson, AZ. Now I have experience as the instructor for intro statistics courses, and have recently taken on the role as an instructor for students learning discrete math, introductory proofs, and algorithmic analysis. Moreover, I’ve spent over 200 hours independently tutoring on the platform helping students meet their content needs in subjects ranging from statistics to introductory C.
My experience teaching underserved populations encouraged me to take an approach to education that emphasizes students strengths over their weaknesses. I approach problems with the intent to tie them to students' existing knowledge and help solidify content gaps. By helping students discover concepts through personal inquiry, sequences of scaffolded questioning, and concrete examples of content, students develop a stronger long term understanding of the concepts they are trying to learn. I am poised to help students that are already struggling to gain their footing, but also to encourage students who are currently performing well and want to push their understanding further given my own in-depth familiarity with the material I teach. I have tutored students from early high school, college freshman, seniors, and even adult learners.
If you are looking for a tutor who will emphasize your long-term understanding of a subject, has a deep enough content knowledge to help you approach your goals from multiple angles, and has experience meeting students where they are, I encourage you to reach out! I look forward to the opportunity to work with you, and I wish you well in your studies." less...
