"Hi, call me Luiz! I have a PhD, a master's, and a bachelor's degree in economics. After completing my undergraduate education, I realized that, besides economics, I have a strong passion for teaching and have spent much time improving my abilities. While pursuing my doctorate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, I was able to deepen even further my teaching skills. There, I have taught many classes as a tutor, teaching assistant, and full instructor. Overall, I have more that a decade of teaching experience with very good feedback from students: I was constantly in the University's "List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by their Students", and I won the Department of Economics"Robert E. Demarest Teaching Prize" more than once.
While my expertise lies in macroeconomics and international trade, I can provide tutoring for any economics class at the undergraduate or master's level. As a teaching philosophy, I tend to emphasize the basic building blocks of concepts, and to make connections between ideas, mathematics and diagrams before engaging in extensive practice, since from experience I feel that frequently students have a problem getting practice exercises and homework questions started because they have not yet made those connections.
