"Hi, I'm Dr. D. and I love teaching! I received my PhD from the University of Connecticut where I was awarded two fellowships and became a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. I taught many years in high school where I started a literary magazine, worked on the scholarship committee and worked on the State Curriculum committee. I worked evenings and on weekends for an SAT preparatory course. Students showed terrific results in their scores! Additionally, I did a lot of tutoring, both formal and informal. I worked one-on-one with many students in a formal setting, but also had many informal tutoring sessions after class or during lunchtime. I also trained student teachers for many years and saw this as a form of tutoring where I taught the student teachers how to teach.
I've worked with may kinds of students including those for whom English was their second language. In each lesson I always try to start with something fun and motivating and then go over the objectives for the lesson, making sure this is what the student wants to accomplish, then I explain the lesson giving lots of opportunities for questions and finally I evaluate what was taught to make sure the objectives were accomplished!
Preparing for the SAT Reading and SAT Writing can be a lot of fun! I like to make a game of this and enjoy watching as students progress and succeed. English literature is incredibly enjoyable when the student becomes interested in the subject matter. Often, just learning how to refine one's reading skill is all that is needed to increase comprehension and start understanding literature. Writing has so many forms, there is something for everyone to become an expert at.
I work exclusively online. This should make scheduling much easier. I view tutoring as an agreement where we both agree to try our best to achieve your goals." less...
