"Hi! I am Mercedes. I have a Ph.D. from the English Department at NYU, an M.A. from University of Chicago, and a B.A. from Rice University. Although I am new to Wyzant, I have tutored students of all ages for 10 years, have worked as a high school English teacher, and am currently teaching undergraduate students.

I prioritize skills-based training over content knowledge so that students can continue to apply skills they learn with me for years to come. I also know different people learn through different styles, so I make the effort to listen to clients' specific preferences and tailor my approach to their needs and strengths.

I truly enjoy editing and have 7 years of experience with different kinds of documents: admissions essays to college and graduate school, class essays, translations (English and Spanish), and research articles. In my graduate days, I applied for and obtained 12 research grants and fellowships (approximately $307,000), so I would also love to help with your fellowship application materials (graduate and undergraduate), such as personal and research statements, statements of purpose, and CVs or resumes!

For Spanish tutoring: In addition to being a Native Spanish speaker, I double-majored in Hispanic Studies in undergrad, work with texts in Spanish for my research, and have tutored Spanish for years (language and literature, all levels).
