"My name is Kayla and I am passionate about teaching. I received a BS in chemistry from Western Kentucky University in 2006 where I double minored in mathematics and criminology. After graduation I decided to continue my education and went on to graduate school at the University of Tennessee. After only a year at UT, my advisor accepted a job offer at the University of Sussex in England and asked me to follow him. My husband and I moved to England where we welcomed our son. I received my Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2012 and have moved back to the US. I currently work in an Analytical Chemistry laboratory in Owensboro, but have a passion for teaching and wish to eventually pursue a career in academia.
While at WKU I was an undergraduate teaching assistant where I helped with laboratory classes; during my time at UT I taught General Chemistry discussion sections, worked in the tutorial center and met with my students for one-to-one or small group tutoring when needed. During my time at the University of Sussex I taught workshops for General Chemistry I, II and III as well as Numeracy Skills for Scientist. In addition, I met with students for one-on-one or small group tutoring and held larger group review sessions. After moving back to the US, I worked as a professional tutor at VUJC and as an adjunct professor at VU before accepting my current position." less...
