"I am currently an adjunct professor in the Biology department of a Bay Area university. I earned a PhD in Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis from Thomas Jefferson University and hold a BS in Biology from Gettysburg College. I have a passion for teaching and for sharing a love for science!
My career started in the laboratory. My PhD work involved investigating viral-host interactions that occur following infection with an RNA-viruses. After finishing my degree, I joined a lab at UCSF as a postdoctoral scholar and continued to work towards developing novel vaccines for viruses like polio, HIV, enterovirus and rabies. During my time as a postdoc, I was able to mentor several students in the lab and found a love for teaching. From there, I took a position at a private university in San Francisco and for over ten years I have been teaching college freshman and sophomores both lecture and laboratory courses.
My teaching niche is Human Biology and Microbiology. A recent pre-nursing student left the following comment on an evaluation, “Professor Goldstein is an amazing, helpful, and intelligent instructor. She encourages and supports every student's needs, especially when concepts and procedures become challenging.” It is important to me that I guide students to use critical thinking. Challenging students to draw real world connections with what they are studying drives my teaching style.
In my experience, learning is a dynamic process. Our tutoring sessions will be conversational so that I can tailor the session to meet your specific needs and learning style. Oftentimes, I will draw problems or pathways, ask questions and relate the material to your life in ways that are memorable and help foster a deeper understanding. We will work together towards a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter, so that you leave the tutoring sessions confident in yourself (not reliant on my help). I hope you reach out so we can start working towards achieving your science goals together!" less...
