"Hi, I'm Christian! I am currently a PhD candidate in Clinical Psychology at St. John's University. I graduated magna cum laude from Penn State University in 2021 with a bachelors of science in psychology. Before beginning graduate school, I worked for 2 years as a clinical diagnostician at Brown University's medical school in collaboration with the Rhode Island Hospital.

During my time in undergrad, I worked for 2.5 years as a teaching assistant for a psychology of personality class. I spent this time grading papers, organizing class assignments, and writing case modules for the course's new textbook. I tutored several college-aged students in both one-on-one and group settings regarding psychological theories of personality and essay writing methods, helping them raise their grades before midterms, final exams, and course papers. This experience gave me an appreciation for how much engagement and attention matter in regard to students' success. Unfortunately, not every professor or teaching assistant is willing to take the time to thoroughly explain abstract concepts. The professor whom I assisted taught me the value of of engagement, a principle I still utilize today both as a student and when I am aiding others with classroom material.

My approach to tutoring is to divide and conquer. I have found that isolating vast amounts of information into smaller categories is the first step in understanding any of it. In order to study more advanced concepts, one first needs to grasp the underlying ideas or theories. I create fun and bold divisions so that the content does not feel too overwhelming. We then take on each section one by one to build confidence and more achievable goals with the material. I have used flashcards, diagrams, and other hands-on methods to guide students through difficult problems.
