"Hi! My name is Kaitlin, and I am currently a PhD. student studying Biomedical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic. I am very passionate about scientific communication – both in academia and to the general public – and am working to become a college professor, so tutoring was the perfect opportunity for me to help students while also developing my teaching skills. While this is my first time tutoring, I have been a teaching assistant for a variety of different STEM courses. This includes both backend work such as running office hours and grading coursework, as well as lecturing and running wet lab experiments. My tutoring style is loosely based on an office hours format where students can bring concepts or coursework that they have questions about or provide study tools to help students practice for exams. I aim to help students get a feel for the underlying mechanisms and logic, which will be applicable to a broad spectrum of scientific concepts.
In terms of qualifications, I have an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering with an honors concentration and a minor in biology. Additionally, I have almost a decade of computer aided design (CAD) experience including a certification in SolidWorks, including teaching CAD to high schoolers as part of a robotics club which allowed many of them to also become certified. As such, I am primarily focused on tutoring at the college/adult level for STEM courses such as lower-level math, biology, and engineering fundamentals like statics and dynamics. I am also available for some upper-level coursework in biomedical engineering such as biomaterials or cell and tissue engineering." less...
