"Hi, I'm a PhD student currently working on my dissertation in epidemiology. I also have a masters in epidemiology/biostatistics and a BA in biological sciences. As a graduate student I've enjoyed helping undergraduate and graduate students succeed in their statistics and epidemiology courses. When I'm teaching statistics/quantitative subjects, I first like to give a conceptual overview of the topic, then work through an example problem(s), and then let the student practice the material on their own. At the end of the lesson I have the student explain their solution so that I can assess how well they've learned the material. Of course we can adjust the structure of the lesson as needed.
I have a variety of teaching experiences in different settings, including one-on-one tutoring, group tutoring, and teaching in a classroom setting. I started teaching high school/advanced placement chemistry at a private tutoring company and at the Upward Bound summer program. I later taught introductory statistics for undergraduates and epidemiological data analysis in SAS. I have advanced programming experience in SAS and some proficiency in R and Stata.
Of course the lesson is meant to benefit the student as much as possible so I am happy to review material and/or customize lesson plans in advance. Feel free to contact me with any questions or for information about scheduling a lesson! I check messages regularly and will provide a fast response." less...
