"My name is Gabriella R. and I am currently a second year PhD Student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Georgetown University. I study Spanish Linguistics and I have research interests in the intersection of sociophonetic features of Caribbean Spanish and Heritage Speakers as well as language attitudes around these dialects. I am also currently a Graduate Student Instructor where I teach beginning Spanish to undergraduate students. I also tutor privately on the side to elementary school kids and have experiences teaching Spanish from elementary school kids to adults. I am also a freelance translator. I personally love tutoring and teaching Spanish to those who are interested in developing their skills further. I love being able to help students who struggle in learning a foreign language in a way that is easier to them and fun. I love showing that language learning is not only important but fun, since learning a language gives you access to an entire new community of people you can communicate with and also makes you a better global citizen.
Spanish was my first language. I learned English in school as an ESL tutor. Because I spoke Spanish at home, I also took HS classes in Spanish, leading to AP courses that further developed my love for language learning. In college, I was a romance studies major where Spanish was my main focus of study through literature seen all throughout Latin America. After graduate college, I was accepted into the Spanish Linguistics program at Georgetown University. Not only do I have academic background in Spanish, but Spanish is my passion since it is also my identity and culture. I love tutoring in Spanish because I know how it is to be learning a foreign language and because I am able to share my culture and identity with people who are interested in learning. When I tutor, I truly care about the needs of the student and how I am able to best help them in whatever way they need.
I grew up dancing Salsa, Bachata and Merengue in my house. I also taught Salsa at Georg" less...
