"My name is Jasmine and I have PhD in Earth and Environmental Sciences. I have done research in the field of meteorite petrology (studying how meteorites form) for the past 10 years and I've been tutoring and teaching for the past 2 years. My research background has helped me develop a profound understanding of how to pick up new subjects or technical skills quickly and intuitively. I put great effort in imparting this knowledge on my students, whether in the classroom or in a one-on-one tutoring session. With me, you will not just get the answers to your homework questions, you'll get the tools and strategies to grasp the necessary concepts yourself.
As an online tutor, for the past two years I have worked with students from the High School to Graduate School level from many different backgrounds and learning levels. The subjects I teach are Geology, Atmospheric Science, Living Environment, IB Environmental Systems and Societies, Ecology, Environmental Science, and MATLAB. Some of my students improved their grades despite considerable learning differences such as dyslexia, auditory processing disorder, and inattentive type ADHD. Their feedback often cited my visual teaching style and patient, calm demeanor as reasons for gaining confidence in subjects that they struggled with and improved test grades.
For the past year, I've taught an introductory Geology Lab class at the undergraduate level. The class introduces students to practical rock and mineral identification, as well as geological processes and quantitative methods. Many of my students are not STEM majors and admit that they struggle with science at first. This is why I design the class to foster a judgement free, comfortable learning environment. I make a point of encouraging students to think scientifically even if they do not know the correct answer right away. Each semester, this has resulted in students participating more as the course goes on, and even large increases in test grades from the first exam, to the third and final exam." less...
