"My students would describe me as kind and comical, with a goal of making learning fun. I have a personalized approach to teaching; I believe that each student is unique and the curriculum should reflect his/her uniqueness. This approach has proven to be very successful for me in keeping students engaged, strengthening the student’s skills, and addressing any learning areas that may need improvement. I choose to teach because I understand the importance of an “academic village” for a student. Throughout the course of my academic journey, I had so people in my corner who contributed to my academic success. I want to be part of someone else’s academic village. I feel that is my purpose, and I fully accept the call.
I enjoy spending time with my family more than anything in this world. Other interests are cooking, reading comics, watching movies, and learning foreign languages. Lastly, the interests that my 5 year old forces me to have which include: Hot Wheels monster trucks, Peppa Pig, Marvel characters (especially Spiderman), and Venus fly traps.
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Winston-Salem State University, with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. I received a PhD in Molecular Medicine and Translational Science from Wake Forest University. I have over 15 years of teaching experience. As part of my teaching experience, I served as lead tutor for children in families with disadvantaged backgrounds through an initiative led by NBA player and Wake Forest University alum Chris Paul. I have taught students from pre-K through college level with diverse backgrounds, including English language learners. I have experience teaching students with learning differences such as Autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and NVLD. I have tutored several subjects including: math, reading, Spanish, biology, chemistry, and physics. I have also created and taught enrichment courses for students who would like to learn advanced topics. Projects from these enrichment courses have led to state and national student awards." less...
