"Hello! I am a first grade teacher in St. Louis, Missouri. I have taught all reading levels in my 9 year career from the alphabet to early chapter books, and everything in between! I am trained in phonemic awareness, phonics (science of reading), and comprehension strategies. The best fit for my tutoring would be ages 5-9. My instruction will use 'screen sharing' over the computer to show your child images of letters and decodable texts. I will make it fun with songs, cheers, and an encouraging attitude.
In our first meeting, I will preform diagnostic tests to see where you child is and where their gaps are. These feel like games to the child, and I will stop when we hit their frustration level. Reading is like a staircase, we go one step at a time! For parents, I will provide all data and additional information where you can look for free resources online. Partnership with caregivers is key! With reading, we will also practice spelling (encoding), handwriting, and sentence structure.
I can also tutor in math! I am trained in building number sense 1-20, addition and subtraction basic facts, shapes and geometry. I can teach double digit addition and subtraction through 120 with regrouping, but for other content beyond that- reach out and I can make it work!
I am from Chicago where I attended North Park University with a degree in sociology. I completed a Master's degree in 2020 from Drake University online in Teaching. I'm currently working on my second Master's from UMSL for a Specialized Reading Certification. On a personal note, I'm married with a 1.5 year old son and a cat, Casey. We love to go on bike rides and we tend a food garden in our backyard.
I look forward to discussing your goals for your child and I am excited to be a resource in their learning." less...
