I have over 15 years experience using PS in a production as well as a photography/design environment, all the way back to version 1.5 - that's before layers were developed. I freelance with major ad agencies in NYC and use PS with my own photography. Retouching is an art, and that means you have to learn and practice a skill as well as learn the theory, and this is especially true when making complex masks for hair or building a file composed of several different images. Although there are several commercial plug-ins available to make masks automatically, nothing is as good as doing it yourself. Then there is color space theory, blending modes, channels, moire, and all the rest. It can be very confusing, so let me sort it out for you, and then you can take your project and run with it.
