"It’s nice to meet you, I’m Jeffrey! My formal education includes a Bachelor's in Applied Physics from CSU Channel Islands with a cumulative 3.89 GPA. Throughout college, I aimed to do my best to master the material. I didn’t focus on my grade and instead tried to reach the point where I was so comfortable with the topic that I could teach someone else the material. This meant lots of studying, but it also meant lots of time asking questions. As much as I read from the textbooks and completed the problem sets, ultimately, it was conversations with professors, TAs, and classmates that took me from 90% to 100%. I try to implement this in my tutoring by remembering how vital it is to meet my students halfway before teaching them how to finish the second half.
For nearly a decade, I have been tutoring one-on-one with students as this lets me get to know them better and help them help themselves. If I can help a student earn a good grade, that is fine, but I know I’ve succeeded when I can help a student feel confident in their mastery and ability to approach the subject on their own. I try to guide students along similar problems to what they present me so that we can break down the problem and efficiently address the issue. With reoccurring sessions, the students will often send me the problems they’re struggling with before our session so that I may create an engaging and effective lesson plan for them.
Previously, I have tutored college students including nontraditional/returning students at Santa Monica College where I had to undergo training in various education concepts regarding the various nuanced ways different students can learn the same information. Furthermore, the students I tutored in mathematics and physics have attended universities such as UCLA, USC, LMU, Brown, and several Cal State schools.
Furthermore, I have done lots of prep work for AP Exams to ensure students do well beyond their classroom grade and attain the highest score possible on their AP Exams." less...
