"My name is Beta. I have a BS in Engineering Physics from Lehigh University and a Master's in Physics from Temple University. I have over 20 years of experience teaching at a university. Most of my experience involves teaching in person, but I do have some experience teaching hybrid and fully online classes as well. I can provide tutoring in college level introductory physics and also high school and AP physics.
I have taught introductory algebra-based and calculus-based physics lecture and lab at community college and university. Currently, I teach Introduction to Physics 1 and 2 along with their labs at a university. This is an algebra-based physics course. My classes are usually small, and I get many opportunities to work with students individually both in class and also outside the class. When working with students one-on-one, I start with what the student already knows and build on that gradually by engaging the student. I use real world examples, applications, and demonstrations often to make difficult concepts more tangible and comprehensible. I believe in most cases, repetition, practice, and exposure to the same concept in different contexts facilitate learning. Furthermore, I believe that effective teaching looks a lot more like a back and forth conversation and discussion, rather than a one-sided flow of information from a "sage on a stage" to a passive listener.
I am a member of the American Association of Physics Teachers and routinely participate in conferences and workshops related to physics education. Furthermore, I have authored the OER physics textbook that I currently use in my classes at the university.
I would love to help students improve their understanding and appreciation of physics and build confidence. Please contact me if you have any question, or if you would like to schedule a session. You can always expect a prompt response." less...
